  • Memo*: Wallace came from Adelaide to Kalgoorlie and then to Kelmscott where all the children were born. During this time Wally worked as a sales rep for Bon Marche & Moores and Bruce & Dick Clarke (Ellen's brother) worked the farm & Wal came home weekends In 1918 he had Whitby Falls Hotel then he went to Victoria Park & then a shop in Belmont.
    1922 they were in William Street then Freo. 1924 when Nell was 13 they went to the Group settlement. They were on one of the Jardanup blocks (i.e. just out of Jardee). They held a second Group block but were unsuccessful in making them profitable. During the Depression the Group Settlers held a protest meeting about the interest charged on the blocks, again without success. They walked off the block which were then sold by the Govt to the Italian migrant for 800 pounds. While on the Groups Wally had a milk round in Jardee. He was a well liked member of the local community.5
