They lived in a tent settlement until there was enough land cleared to build a house and then proceeded to farm cows and apples. He was one of the survivors due to the efforts of his girls who were all required to work on the property. He stayed on the farm until late 40's early 50's when they went to live at Armadale. This was not a happy move & they retuned to Manjimup.⁴
