  " IVY-HA' "
  
  Respectfully inscribed to James Logan, Quarrier, Kilbirnie.
  
  You roofless touir, - you turrets bare, -
  You mould'rin time-worn wa',
  Remind the brave o' bluidie ills,
  That scaith't fair Ivy-Ha'.
  
  For mony a buirdlie belted knicht,
  Had dwalt therin, I ween,
  An' mony a dame and laddie gay,
  Had lichtlie pac't its green.
  
  And weir-horns soun't and bugles blew,
  And beacons bleezed clear,
  And cups gaed roun', and minstrels sang,
  And harpers strings gied cheer.
  
  But ah, the rewful border feuds !
  The ruthlip southrons pride,
  The knichts are faun! the vengefu' brands,
  In richest bluid war dy'd!
  
  Nae brent brow'd virgins, jimp ang young,
  Can grace its wastit wa',
  Nae weir-horns soun', nor bugles blast,
  Is heard in Ivy-Ha'.
  
  The beacons licht is dim and dead,
  Nae shall nor cup gaes roun',
  Nae harper strikes the aneless strings,
  Nor echo hears the soun'.
  
  But howlets cry frae turrets hie,
  Whar minstrels wont to blaw,
  And ruins sel' sits broodin owre,
  The touirs o' Ivy-Ha'.¹
