He was a young man of great promise, deeply interested in all that was best in literature, especially in the ballads and history of his native land, for which he fought and died. An enthusiastic church worker and a special panel was fitted to the Communion Table on Kilbirnie Auld Kirk to his memory. His death was a very severe blow to his family; a blow from which his sweatheart never fully recovered."2
